Areford Community Park
Areford Community Park is quietly nestled in the western portion of South Union Township near the communities of Areford, Jamison, and Continental. This park offers one of the most modern playgrounds in Southwestern PA. Areford Community Park includes tennis courts, two all-purpose baseball/soccer/football fields, a concession stand, and a half-mile walking & jogging path.
One of the most popular park attractions is the annual Areford Neighborhood Block Party. It's a great example of a close knit neighborhood joining together to have fun and enjoy a special time together.
South Union Township Community Park
South Union Township Community Park is located in the Hutchinson area. This 32 acre park encompasses large-scale activities such as little league and teener league baseball as well as soccer leagues. The park also includes two concession stands, four lighted baseball/softball fields, a soccer field, a basketball court, seven pavilions, a playground and a ¾ mile walking/jogging path.
Pavilions 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 at Hutchinson Park are available for rent at $100.00/day for South Union Township residents and $200.00/day for those living outside the Township. Pavilion 6 is available for rent at $200.00/day for residents and $400.00/day for non-residents. Please see click the tab "Our Area" on our homepage and select "Pavilion Rental" for more information.
When visiting Hutchinson Park, check out South Union Township's new bike rental system. South Union Trail Ride bicycles are now available for rent. Enjoy the Sheepskin Trail in a new way by cruising through our scenic township. A smartphone is required to use this bike share system. Please download the Movatic app and follow on-screen instructions. Rates are $6.00 for the first hour and $2.50 for each additional hour. South Union residents can receive a discounted rate by applying coupon code SURES19. Bike rentals are available daily from 6:00 am to 8:00 pm.
Tails on the Trail Dog Park
South Union Township is proud to provide Fayette County with its first and only dog park. A blighted property was acquired and the leash-free canine park was conceived. Thanks to generous donors the dream became a reality. Tails on the Trail provides a running area for large and small dogs from sunrise to sunset. The park includes water fountains, a hydrant mister and agility equipment for canine friends. The grounds are open to all that obey the rules and regulations as listed below.
Other Community Parks
South Union Township includes several other community parks including Brownfield Park, MT. View Park and Leith Park. These three community parks serve the local neighborhoods in which they are located. Each park features playground equipment for tots and young children, basketball courts, and plenty of open play space.
